This year we will partner with the Storm Lake Public Library for P.I.E. partner. Mrs. Huff, the children's librarian, will make monthly visits to present the author of the month. This month it was Dr. Seuss. The students had fun interacting with Mrs. Huff and her Cat in the Hat costume. She also brought us limited edition book marks with Thing 1 and Thing 2 stickers attached! We look forward to our activity next month which will be to make gingerbread houses.
Mrs. Lange/Richardson's Class . . . Welcome to our blog! We are excited to share lots of important news about great things happening at Storm Lake Elementary. We hope you will check back often to see important calendar events and amazing activities going on in our classroom!

Character Counts!
November is Responsibility month at Storm Lake Elementary. We will encourage students to be responsible by getting their homework done, walking in the halls, and making good choices. We had a ton of fun at the all school assembly. Teachers did a skit and demonstrated the "wrong" way to act in the lunch line, in the halls, and at recess. Student volunteers then showed the entire school how to act responsibly and do it the "right" way.
Please encourage your child to be responsible both at school and home!

Book Fair
Each morning last week, our class got to play Book Fair Bingo. We didn't win, but we had a lot of fun! Thanks to all parents and students who supported the book fair. We were able to get lots of new picture books for our library!

Apple Orchard!
Storm Lake first graders traveled to Fort Dodge to the Community Orchard. We took a tour of the facility and learned how they picked and sorted the apples. We also saw how they made pies and cider. We discovered how the summer drought affected the apple trees and how many apples each tree produced.

Butterflies!
First graders welcomed our Buena Vista County Naturalist, Katie, to talk with us about butterflies. We learned how to tell the difference between male and female butterflies. We also learned about their life cycle. Afterwards, we went outside and tagged 12 butterflies. Hopefully they will migrate to Mexico and someone will find their tag and report back to us!

First Day of First Grade!
We had a fabulous first day of school! All elementary students gathered around the flag pole to say the pledge and listen to our national anthem. We also talked about our expectations in the hall and at recess. We practiced walking in the hall and using our quiet voices. We are off to a great start!
